Aflac Foundation Gives $1.5 million to Aflac Sickle Cell Disease Program

At the Annual Aflac Focus Kick-Off Meeting, the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center received $1.5 million from The Aflac Foundation, Inc. to support our pediatric Sickle Cell Program.
Ann Mertens named Interim Director of CORPH
Dr. Ann Mertens was named Interim Director for Emory University Department of Pediatrics, Center for Outcomes Research and Public Health (CORPH). CORPH provides a forum for researchers to learn about available resources, including suitable funding opportunities, to garner advice about navigating health services research, and to identify collaborators and investigators. The center synergizes with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta's wellness initiatives impacting the health of Georgia’s children.
AJC Highlights The Sickle Cell Data Collection Program
Dr. Peter Lane was featured in an AJC article discussing the importance of The Sickle Cell Data Collection program, which was developed through a partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the CDC Foundation and the Georgia Health Policy Center.

Aflac Researcher featured in ASCO’s Annual Review
Research led by Dr. Jason Fangusaro was selected by American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for inclusion in the Society’s Annual Review of Progress Against Cancer. The study on Selumetinib could affect the standard of care for those with low-grade glioma.

Peach Bowl LegACy Fund Commits $4.5 million to Advance Pediatric Clinical Trials

The Peach Bowl LegACy Fund at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta committed $4.5 million in its first year to develop clinical trials for the most promising new drugs and treatment options for children fighting cancer. We are proud to present the first cycle of physician scientist awardees: Dr. Tobey MacDonald, Dr. Kirsten Williams, Dr. Melinda Pauly, Dr. Kathryn Sutton, and Dr. Kelly Goldsmith.

The Aflac Cancer Center ranked #1 in the country for Children's Oncology Group (COG) therapeutic and non-therapeutic clinical trial enrollment in 2019.
Call for Abstracts
Deadline for abstract submission for 10th Annual Southeastern Pediatric Research Conference is March 13 at 1pm. All abstracts related to child health will be considered. The conference will be held at the Georgia Aquarium on June 12.
