Dr. Glaivy Batsuli Receives NIH K99/R00 Award
This K99/R00 award in Blood Sciences is an 8 year NIH funding mechanism through the NHLBI that will provide 5 years of mentored research funding (K99) then 3 years of independent research funding (R00). The grant is titled, “Utilizing Dendritic Cell Biology to Characterize the Innate Immune Response to Blood Coagulation Proteins”.

Aflac Investigator Receives Top 1% Score on R01
Dr. Muxiang Zhou received a top 1% score on a NIH R01 grant titled, “Dual inhibition of MDM2 and XIAP as a therapeutic strategy in cancer.” (Multiple PI grant in collaboration with Dr. Wei Li)
 
  
IND Approval Given for STAT3 Inhibitor Planned for Pediatric Brain Cancer Trial
Dr. Tobey MacDonald and Moleculin Biotech, Inc. received IND FDA approval for the WP1066 drug, which will be used in a Phase 1 pediatric brain cancer clinical trial, that will launch in the coming months at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.

UGA Dance Marathon Raises $1.25M for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
On February 22-23, UGA Miracle hosted its 25th annual Dance Marathon “Ignite the Light”. More than 1,700 University of Georgia students danced nonstop for 25 hours, witnessed inspirational messages from our patients and families, and came together as a community. The amount raised will support the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center and Children’s Rehab Services.

Aflac Researcher Recieves ITI Hemophilia Award
Dr. Gary Woods was the recipient of the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society (HTRS) ITI School in Hemophilia 2020 Award and featured on the front page of the HTRS Newsletter.
