Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with Emory University School of Medicine and Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta. This relationship bridges one of the most well endowed private universities with one of the largest children's healthcare systems in the country. The Children's system includes 3 hospitals, 2 of which serve as training hospitals, with over 500 beds, numerous satellite facilities around the metro Atlanta area, and a medical staff of over 1,200 physicians representing 43 pediatric sub-specialties.
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston
Children's at Egleston is directly across the street from Emory University Hospital and is an integral part of the Emory community. In 1978, the hospital entered into an agreement with Emory University School of Medicine to become the institution's pediatric teaching facility. A recently renovated Children's at Egleston serves as the State of Georgia's only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma center. It features centralized cardiac services to offer families streamlined access to all components of this vital program, an enlarged 40-room Emergency department to increase capacity and improve flow, expanded outpatient clinic and patient rooms for the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children's, and additional and enlarged operating rooms to accommodate more patients and allow additional space for the latest surgical equipment.
The hospital is supported by physicians from all specialty areas, as well as a modern radiology department, a laboratory fully operational on a 24/7 schedule, pediatric pathology, a hospital pharmacy actively involved in parenteral alimentation and monitoring of drug therapy, a nutrition team, a staff of social workers available to families and physicians, and a child life group involved in the care of patients with special problems. Patients throughout the metropolitan area, as well as throughout Georgia and neighboring states are referred to this 272-bed facility.
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Splading
Children's at Hughes Spalding is an 82-bed facility in downtown Atlanta. It is owned by Grady Health System and managed by HSOC Inc., an affiliate of Children's. Services include 24-hour Pediatric Emergency care and specialty clinics for asthma, child protection, primary care and sickle cell disease. Completed in August 2010, this four-story facility replaced the hospital's 1952 building, which was originally constructed as an adult hospital.
