Special Research Procedures
Although no direct benefit is guaranteed, participating in a clinical study involves special procedures which can be useful in better
understanding your child’s asthma and response to treatment. Special procedures done at the Asthma Clinical Research Program at the
Emory Children’s Center include:
- Assessment of asthma control and severity
- Allergy skin and blood tests
- Detailed lung function testing including lung volumes
- Measurement of optimal or peak lung function after a bronchodilator
- Challenge testing to measure airway sensitivity to special agents
- Breath analysis for markers of inflammation
- Assessment of inflammatory cells in sputum
- Effects of controlled air pollution exposure
