Social Activities

Pumpkin-Carving Contest

Each October our residents participate in a pumpkin-carving contest, with the winner chosen at Grand Rounds. Each inpatient team submits their creation, and be warned—the competition if fierce!

Each class of residents has an annual retreat. During these events, patient coverage is maintained by the other classes, faculty and fellows. Intern retreat is a two and a half day event held each fall in the North Georgia mountains, with plenty of time for class bonding and relaxation as well as personal and professional growth. The second and third year retreats consist of a day spent enjoying all that Atlanta has to offer with your classmates.
holiday Holiday Party

Each December Dr. Buchter invites all the residents, faculty, and their families to her home for a delicious meal and holiday merriment. Coverage of the inpatient services is provided by fellows and faculty so all residents have the opportunity to attend. It’s hard to tell what residents enjoy more—the fellowship with their colleagues or Dr. Buchter’s amazing cooking skills!
Moustache March

In the spring the men of the program grow moustaches to raise money for the local Ronald McDonald House. The results are both hilarious and terrifying.
Family Day

Our annual Family Day celebration provides an eagerly anticipated opportunity for our residents’ families to come and experience what resident life is all about. They meet the Program Administration and receive tours of Egleston, Hughes Spalding, and Grady.
Summer Picnic

Each June we say goodbye to our graduating seniors and hello to our new interns at the summer picnic in Piedmont Park. This event provides a great chance for the incoming PL-1s to meet their soon-to-be colleagues in a relaxed and inviting setting.

Meconium Cup

The annual Meconium Cup pits the Pediatrics residents against our colleagues in OB/GYN in a friendly game of softball. Friends and family are welcome and a good time is had by all.

  Other Events

In addition to the events listed here, residents organize and participate in a number of other social activities throughout the year. Whether you want to take in a Braves game, run a half-marathon, hike, or learn to paint, there is always something going on!
