Faculty Development
The purpose of the Annual Faculty Awards program is to publicly recognize the many clinicians, educators and
investigators on our faculty who make important and valued contributions to the Department of Pediatrics with
the goal of making these recognitions available to a broad range of faculty members through an expanded menu of
annual awards. These awards will be based on the quality of the contributions cited as well as on the number of
nominating surveys returned by faculty and trainees each year. The surveys will be reviewed by a Clinician/Educator
Awards Committee and by a Research Awards Committee in the Spring of each year. The Committees will make
recommendations to the Chair who will make the final decision on award recipients. The Awards, which will consist
of a framed certificate and a $500 prize, will be presented at a faculty celebration at the end of each academic year.
The Award categories are:
- Annual Teaching Awards
- Teacher of the Year: General Pediatrics
- Teacher of the Year: Subspecialty Pediatrics
- Innovations in Teaching/Program Development
- Annual Clinical Awards
- Master Clinician of the Year: Clinical Expertise
- Transformation of Care: Clinical Innovation/Program Development
- Humanitarian: Caring and Compassion
- Annual Research Awards
- Best Scientific Publication of the Year: Basic Science
- Best Scientific Publication of the Year: Clinical and Translational
- Junior Faculty Researcher of the Year
- Research Mentor of the Year
Members of the Awards Committees are chosen by the Chair from among volunteers and nominations submitted to the
Vice Chair for Faculty Development. The 6 members of each committee are appointed for rotating terms of 3 years
each. If you would like to volunteer or to nominate someone else to serve on a Committee, you may contact
Dr. J. Devn Cornish at jcornis@emory.edu or at (404) 727-2456. Copies of the nominating surveys can be obtained
in late April of each year at the same e-mail or phone number.
