It is never too early to prepare for your promotion. By regularly updating your professional documents, you will greatly reduce the chance of omitting valuable information later on in the process.

Be sure to read the School of Medicine's Guidelines on Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure as well as the Department's helpful (though unofficial) document, " Interpreting the Guidelines on Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure" so that you know what is required for your promotion or appointment. Work closely with your Division Director and mentor, and be willing to share your professional goals and objectives with them.

Also, make sure that you complete the Career Development Conference Report annually and use it as an opportunity to review your progress with your division director. This will help achieve mutual understanding of your goals and progress and can be a means for assuring that the resources you need to develop your career are made available to you.
