Welcome to the Department of Pediatrics of Emory University
School of Medicine.
The Department of Pediatrics has multiple Divisions with innovative
clinical and laboratory-based science, cutting-edge clinical
programs, and exciting training programs. These Divisions include:
Biochemical Pharmacology, Cardiology, Critical Care Medicine,
Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology/Hepatology/Nutrition,
General Pediatrics, Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation,
Infectious Diseases, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology/Allergy/Cystic
Fibrosis/Sleep/Apnea, and Rheumatology. The talented faculty
within these divisionsare dedicated to providing the best clinical
care for our patients and training experiences for future physicians
and researchers.
We provide specialty pediatric care in the Emory Children’s
Center (ECC), at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta—Egleston,
CHOA—Scottish Rite, CHOA—Hughes Spalding Children’s,
Grady Memorial Hospital (GMH), Emory University Hospital Midtown
(EUHM), and Emory Johns Creek Hospital. A new Department of
Pediatrics/Emory Children’s Center building was completed
in 2005, providing an expansion in clinical and research space
as well as the opportunity for clinicians and investigators
to work in close proximity fostering the interchange of ideas.
The Emory University Department of Pediatrics has a strong
Residency Program as well as Fellowship Programs in most of
our subspecialty Divisions. The residency offers a balanced
training experience in general pediatrics and the pediatric
subspecialties. Embracing the clinical services at CHOA-Hughes
Spalding, the Grady Memorial Hospital nurseries and CHOA—Egleston,
the curriculum offers comprehensive clinical experience, rewarding
teaching and supervision responsibilities, and the opportunity
for active participation in research. Our pediatric training
programs have grown significantly in recent years and have
consistently attracted strong candidates.
We are committed to continuing programs that will develop
current and future Department of Pediatrics faculty members.
The Pediatric Executive Program was established in 2005 to
help develop, exercise, and strengthen individual leadership
within the Department of Pediatrics, and to foster collegiality
and teamwork as we strive to realize our vision and mission.
The broad curriculum offers physicians, researchers, educators,
and administrators a first hand opportunity to learn leadership
skills and the basics of the business of medicine. Other faculty
development opportunities include courses for junior faculty
members offered at the level of the University, the School
of Medicine, and the Department. We especially encourage you
to visit the Faculty Development portion of this website.
In addition to developing your skills through these offerings,
as a member of the faculty you have the opportunity to develop
collaborative relationships that will strengthen your research
and knowledge base. With close proximity to the national Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and a close relationship
to other departments across campus, and other research institutions
in Atlanta (including the Georgia Institute of Technology)
our investigators have participated in and led world renowned
projects.
As a faculty member of the Emory University School of Medicine
you belong to an institution rich in history (see
http://www.emory.edu/history/). The University is recognized
internationally for its outstanding liberal arts college,
superb professional schools, and one of the leading health
care systems in the country. (http://www.emory.edu/WELCOME/glance.html)
