- Writing and Updating Your Curriculum Vitae using
the Required Emory University School of Medicine Format
It is important to maintain an updated copy of your
Department of Pediatrics curriculum vitae. This document
will be requested once a year for preparation of the
Annual Report to the School of Medicine. It is also
a great place to keep track of all of your accomplishments,
which will be extremely useful during the promotion
process. An Emory
School of Medicine electronic template is available
for use.
- Scholarship
- Broad Definition
Scholarship is the development and dissemination
of new knowledge or of new insights into existing
knowledge; or competent mastery of one or more
of the academic disciplines resulting from continued
systematic study.
Scholarship activity also may consist of innovative
conceptualizations or novel solution to health
problems that have received national recognition;
or of research on and application of new concepts
in biomedical education.
Regardless of its form, then candidate's scholarship
must provide promise of continued creativity.
Publications in refereed journals and research
funding awards are the primary evidence of scholarship
- General
Clinical Research Center
The Emory University General Clinical Research
Center (GCRC) program provides a controlled environment
for Emory faculty conducting quality patient-oriented
research. The GCRC includes unites at Emory University
Hospital and a satellite GCRC at Grady Memorial
Hospital. The GCRC is staffed and funded through
an NIH grant from the National Center for Research
Resources (NCRR
Mo1-RR00039)
- Office
of Research Administration
The Office of Research was created in 1996 to
foster excellence in research throughout all the
unites of the University. The mission of the Office
of Research Administration is to provide exceptional
research administration in support of excellence
in research, in concurrence with the mission
of the University.
- Office
of Sponsored Programs
The Office of Sponsored Programs provides PreAward
support and guidance to faculty and staff for
all sponsored program activities. The Office of
Sponsored Programs, as an integral part of the
University's research infrastructure, collaborates
with the Emory community to identify, obtain and
administer extramural funding in support
of the mission of the University.
- Manuscript
Development Program
The manuscript
development program was launched as pilot
program in 2002 to address some of the changes
in the landscape in scholarly publishing. The
program supports faculty who are publishing books
in this changing environment. The typically, Emory
authors who choose to work with this program wish
to make their scholarship more accessible to somewhat
broader to interdisciplinary audiences. As the
program evolved, we discovered the need to help
junior faculty learn more about the publishing
process and craft their first book proposals.
We also consult with authors on issues related
to the writing and revision process, as well as
offer occasional workshops on issues related to
scholarly publishing.
- Institutional
Review Board
The Emory University Institutional Review Board
is a research oversight committee charged with
assuring, both in advance and by periodic review,
that appropriate steps are taken to protect the
rights and welfare of humans participating as
subjects in
approved research studies.
- Grady
Research Oversight Committee
A complete research protocol must be submitted
and approved by the Grady
Research Oversight Committee before research
can begin in the Grady Health System

promotion in part on their teaching achievements
and potential shall have demonstrated skill in
