All residents attend a variety of teaching conferences on both Egleston and
Grady campuses. Conferences include Core Curriculum, Acute Care
Symposium, Grady Grand Rounds, Egleston Grand Rounds, Pediatric
Surgery, Journal Club, Morbidity & Mortality, and Ethics.
|
We have developed a Core Curriculum of the major topics in Pediatrics.
Lectures of these topics are given each Monday and Tuesday morning, followed
by our Morning Report. This format has been very successful by increasing both
the resident attendance and learning. These lectures also attract other General
Pediatric and Subspecialty attendings that are available to share their
experience with the topic. |

 |
Acute Care Symposium, a series of 24 one-hour presentations
by faculty, is conducted each July. Lecture topics include general pediatric
emergencies and provide attendees an opportunity to learn up to date diagnosis and management skills.
Weekly Grand Rounds
on both campuses provide house staff with both diagnostic and
educational opportunities. Leading speakers are invited to discuss
their areas of expertise. Egleston Grand rounds are held on Wednesday
mornings, whereas Grady Ground Rounds are held on Thursday mornings.

Specialty conferences
such as Pediatric Surgery are attended by both Pediatric and Surgery
house staff. Conference topics are presented by Residents, Fellows,
Faculty, and Guest Lecturers. This conference is held on Friday
mornings.
Journal Club
is held monthly with opportunity for Housestaff to critically
evaluate current literature. A child and sexual abuse seminar
is offered to PL-1's toward the completion of their first
year in preparation for their second-year responsibilities. Morbidity
and Mortality conference provide an opportunity for self-evaluation.
This conference is offered quarterly. Residents present interesting
cases encountered during their training that provide opportunity
to reflect on outcome.
Ethics conference is offered monthly with opportunity
for Housestaff to explore and discuss medical ethics.
