All residents attend a variety
of teaching conferences on both Egleston and Grady campuses.
Conferences include Core Curriculum, Acute Care Symposium, Morning/Noon
Report, Grady Grand Rounds, Egleston Grand Rounds, Board Review,
Morbidity & Mortality, Clinical Pathology Conference, Evidence-Based
Medicine/Journal Club, Ethics, and additional specialty conferences.
| Core Curriculum
is a lecture series that covers the major topics in Pediatrics.
Lectures of these topics are given each Monday and Tuesday.
These lectures are regularly attended by both General
Pediatric and Subspecialty attendings that share their
knowledge and experience with the topic at hand. These
lectures are recorded and posted online through the resident
intranet so that they are available for off service and
post call residents. |

 |
Acute Care Symposium, a
series of 20 one-hour presentations by faculty, is a course
that is given each July in order to prepare housestaff
for emergencies that they may encounter while on call.
These lectures provide attendees an opportunity to learn
up to date diagnosis and acute management skills. In fact,
this lecture series has become so popular that it is now
being teleconferenced to other nearby hospitals..
Morning/Noon Report is held daily
except on Thursdays at each campus to discuss current
interesting cases and the relevant pathophysiology,
clinical pearls, management, and therapeutic strategies.

|
| Weekly Grand Rounds on both campuses provide
house staff with both diagnostic and educational opportunities.
Grady Ground Rounds are held on Thursday mornings and involve
an interactive case-based discussion. Egleston Grand rounds
are held on Wednesday mornings, and draw nationally recognized
experts to discuss updates and advances in their areas of expertise.
Board Review is held monthly and presented
by a resident at each campus. Board Review allows housestaff
to review the topics outlined by the AAP that are tested on
the Pediatric Certifying Exam.
Morbidity and Mortality conference is held
quarterly and provides an opportunity for self-evaluation.
Residents present interesting cases encountered during their
training that provide opportunity to reflect on outcome.
Clinical Pathology Conference is held quarterly
to review an interesting case in which pathology is paramount
to the final diagnosis. The conference is held at Egleston,
and is led by a resident in collaboration with attendings
and pathologists.
Evidence-Based Medicine/Journal Club is held
quarterly in order to teach housestaff to critically evaluate
current literature.
Ethics conference is offered monthly with
opportunity for housestaff to explore and discuss medical
ethics.
Specialty conferences such as pediatric surgery,
cardiac cath conference, and other subspecialty conferences
are available to both on and off service rotators as their
schedules allow. Conference topics are presented by Residents,
Fellows, Faculty, and Guest Lecturers. These conferences,
held throughout the week, provide the opportunity for more
in depth learning in particular areas of interest.
