Residency Program
| |
| PL-1
At the PL-1 level, the resident is the patient's primary physician on
all rotations. The PL-1 resident is responsible for performing
and recording a complete assessment of the patient, establishing
a problem list and management plan, and providing appropriate
follow-up care. Through this process the resident is directly
involved in patient, family, and medical student education. The
PL-1 resident's activities are supervised by PL-2 and PL-3 residents
and faculty attending pediatricians.
The average schedule during
the PL-1 year includes two rotations on the general pediatric
inpatient service at Hughes Spalding Children's
Hospital (HSCH), a two-month block on subspecialty inpatient
services at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at
Egleston (Children's), two rotations in the general
pediatric inpatient service at Children's, two rotations
in the nurseries, one emergency center rotation at HSCH,
one behavioral and developmental pediatrics rotation, one rotation
on the Genetics/Endocrinology/Metabolism service, and one elective
rotation.
On the inpatient services,
PL-1 residents are responsible for six to ten patients. During
the autumn of each year the Department of Pediatrics sponsors
an organized three-day retreat in the North Georgia mountains
for PL-1 residents.
