PL-3

The senior resident assumes an important supervisory and consultative role while maintaining active participation in patient care.

The average schedule for PL-3 residents includes one or two rotations as team supervisor on the general pediatric inpatient service at Hughes Spalding Children's Hospital (HSCH); one rotation in adolescent medicine; two rotations in the emergency center at HSCH; one rotation as the teaching resident at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston (Children's); one rotation on a subspecialty service at Children's; and four elective rotations. Two rotations involve no overnight call, one of which can be fulfilled outside the Atlanta area. The call schedule for PL-3 residents is otherwise similar to that for the PL-2 year.

The PL-3 residents also have a one-day retreat in the spring which culminates in a banquet and award ceremony to celebrate the completion of their pediatric training.
