Emergency Medicine

Welcome to the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University

We can't become what we need to be by remaining what we are.

It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as Division Director for Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Emory since 1996. It has been an amazing, fulfilling and rewarding journey for me personally. When I took this job, my goals were to build a stable division that met the clinical and academic needs of our division members and the institutions we serve. Without a doubt and with your help and support, I (we) have achieved these goals. The division has > 50 faculty, >15 Advanced Practice Providers, 3 fellowships, over 200 resident rotators/year and a robust teaching and research enterprise. We serve >150,000 patients and remain in the top quartile for national quality benchmarks and customer service.  I am proud and excited to showcase this amazing division to Dr. Srikant Iyer, who will serve not only as Division Director for our Emory Division, but also as Service Line Chief for the Emergency Medicine Service Line that oversees clinical operations at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Hughes Spalding and Scottish Rite. We couldn’t have recruited a better person for this job. I am confident in Dr. Iyer’s ability to take Emergency Services and specifically our division to the next level and make us bigger, better, stronger and lead us to prominence in not just clinical services, but also quality, teaching and research. I am honoured to be working alongside Dr. Iyer in the years to come.

Dr. Naghma Khan
Naghma S. Khan, MD
Division Director, Pediatric Emegency Medicine
Emory University School of Medicine

I am humbled and thrilled to assume leadership of the academic Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine and the Emergency Medicine Service Line for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.  Thanks to the many talented providers and the leadership of Dr. Naghma Khan, the Division has built and sustained an effective and efficient clinical service, a robust set of educational offerings and training opportunities, and a program of research supported by external funding. As I take on this new role, I am grateful for the continuing opportunity to benefit from Dr. Khan’s knowledge and experience.
Keeping the child at the center of our work, I hope to build on the current strong state by continuously refining our systems of care delivery to achieve superior clinical outcomes and exceed the child’s and family’s expectations for experience.  We will also focus efforts on critical enablers of our desired clinical outcomes, including discovery through research, translation of research and evidence to reliable bedside practice, and ensuring successive generations of providers are trained to provide the highest quality care. While our aims are bold, I am confident that we can accomplish them through collaboration among our talented team.  I am eager for the journey.
